Overview
ADC and Dansk Bio’s new report reveals what’s holding EU biotech back, and how targeted policy change can close the gap with the US. Key findings span funding shortfalls, translation challenges, and regulatory bottlenecks.
Three main challenges
- Funding shortfall: EU pension funds invest 100x less than US peers, costing billions in growth.
- Translation gap: Europe’s top research often fails to scale commercially.
- Regulatory delay: Clinical and drug approvals take up to 40% longer than in the US.
The path forward
- Align pension fund rules with the US to unleash growth capital
- Build professional translation offices in major EU universities
- Harmonise and speed up regulatory reviews
